Get It Right Around The World

Marketing media review

The market economy today dictates that in order to
expand, corporate entities much embrace the concept of globalization.  With this comes the responsibility, both legally and culturally, to ensure that any new launch into world markets satisfies the minimum requirements, but also excites the prospect with the type of communication that clients would expect from a local source.
Simply put, you don’t want to look “
Foreign”.

Global Product Promotion —  Watch Out For Landmines!

Volume 5— Spring 2009

Regulatory Aspects Of Global Product Promotion

In some countries certain products are deemed “unsafe” until the proper inspections and approvals are given by the local authorities.  Some products, although legal in one country, may be deemed illegal in other countries, due to ingredient content, safety regulations, or local industry protection legislation or importation restrictions.

In addition to taking all of the necessary steps to promote your product or service in a foreign land, it is necessary to check in advance to ensure that all aspects of compliance have been adhered to in each country.

For example, foods with certain ingredients, may be deemed unsafe.  Service offering without the proper local content may be deemed illegal.  Product safety requirements must be met to ensure that any code with respect to use or hazard is identified.

Chemicals and Electronics must have the proper MSDS documents in the language of the purchaser’s country.

Ensure That Your Product Is Both Accepted and Approved

Catching errors and spotting cultural issues before they occur are two of the most critical aspects of media quality control in foreign markets.  Often a translator is working alone, removed from the actual process of product development, with neither a clear understanding of the market concept, nor a firm grasp of what the target client’s expectations are from the product.  This can lead to a critical breakdown of Global proportions.
